PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools officials announced Monday morning that the district will be closed Tuesday because of dangerously cold temperatures.

Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Linda Lane said many students walk to school or have to wait on buses, and it will be too cold to have them do that on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh Public was the first to announce a closure for Tuesday.

"We have a lot of our students who are walkers and we have a lot of students standing on corners waiting for buses.  So we are obviously very concerned about making sure that we don't end up with any issues because of that,” Lane said.

Lane told Channel 11’s Vince Sims that as of now, she’s telling kids to have their homework done for Wednesday.
