PITTSBURGH — Bishop David Zubik was joined on Mount Washington Saturday morning by other members of the Christian Leaders Fellowship for an annual Easter blessing of Pittsburgh.
The prayer service, which has taken place each Holy Saturday for 25 years, brings together leaders from various Christian churches. Among the faiths represented were Roman and Byzantine Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopal and Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran and Greek Orthodox.
From the overlook across from Saint Mary of the Mount Church on Mount Washington, the city of Pittsburgh was blessed with holy water during the service.
Afterward, Zubik shared the following message:
"As we celebrate Easter again, an event that continues to have its impact on all of us, our prayers, the community leaders, religious leaders of this area, is that peace may be more than just a word. That it can, in fact, be a deep part of our hearts and souls as we seek not to build walls, but to tear them down to be there as examples of who Jesus is for all who are in the world."
