Mount Lebanon police filed a summary harassment charge against a Keystone Oaks High School teacher who had been accused of inappropriate behavior with students.
Michael A. Magri, 34, of McMurray, was "cited for striking a juvenile student with a closed fist, resulting in a bruise on the student's arm," police said in a news release.
Magri is a wood shop teacher at the high school.
In their release, Mount Lebanon police said, "It should be noted that none of the allegations indicated any type of sexual, retaliatory, or angry contact. The behavior would be more appropriately characterized as sophomoric in nature."
Mount Lebanon police said the investigation came to a close on Wednesday. Police told Channel 11 there were a number of incidents prior to this one where Magri had reportedly overstepped his boundaries in the classroom.
Previously, Keystone Oaks parents at last Friday's football game said they were surprised to hear of the allegations, which were made earlier that day. One Keystone Oaks mother said she asked her children about it after she received a letter.
"We called the girls down. They’re like, 'Oh, yeah. That's old news. We know about that,'” the mother said.
In a letter Friday to parents and guardians, Keystone Oaks School District Superintendent William P. Stropkaj said the district was working with the Mount Lebanon Police Department during the investigation.
Stropkaj said in the letter, "The Keystone Oaks School District Administration and Board of School Directors' top priority is to protect students and provide a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow."
The school district confirmed that Magri is still an employee and he remains on paid leave. District officials had no further comment about the investigation.
