NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who police said kicked a crying 1-year-old girl in the abdomen has been jailed on child endangerment and assault charges.

New Castle police said the incident happened Wednesday afternoon at an apartment, where 25-year-old Clinton Davis was watching his girlfriend's daughter. %

Police said Davis got mad after the girl fell off a chair and started crying, so he cursed at her then kicked her.

Witnesses told police Davis then grabbed the girl by the arm and threw her out of a door into the common area of the apartment complex -- then continued his conversation with someone else as if nothing happened.

“You get angry. It's upsetting for a police officer to handle these kinds of calls. The child can't protect themselves,” New Castle police Chief Robert Salem said.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Davis, who allegedly told police he kicked the girl in the "side" and not the stomach.

The child’s mother told Channel 11 News that her daughter will be OK and that Davis is “where he belongs,” referring to jail.
