Police: Man kills 15-year-old neighbor, wounds stepfather before turning gun on himself

Two dead in double homicide — Two people were killed and another was wounded in a shooting Sunday night in Homestead.

Allegheny County 911 received a call around 8:45 p.m. regarding multiple people shot in the 200 block of East 15th Avenue.

Investigators said the incident appears to be a murder-suicide, but a motive has not been confirmed.

The Allegheny County medical examiner said 19-year-old Ryzel Barrett shot and killed his neighbor, 15-year-old Taevon Harris, in a back yard.

Barrett then went inside his house and shot his stepfather before turning the gun on himself, according to investigators.

Neighbors heard the man's wife yelling for help.

"A lady screaming, 'Is my husband dead? Is my husband dead?'" Christina Seeman said.

Harris and Barrett died. Barrett's stepfather was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Chris Harris, Taevon Harris' uncle, said his nephew was full of energy and was always joking around.

"He's going to be missed. There's a lot of people that look up to him," Chris Harris said. "It's still unbelievable, especially the way it happened."

Ashly Harris, Taevon Harris' cousin, told Channel 11 News about the last time she saw her boyfriend, Barrett, alive.

"He goes in my house, within 5 seconds he comes out and runs in his house with a gun. Then in 2 more minutes, his mom comes out screaming, 'He shot my husband, and he killed himself,'" she said.

The incident began as an argument. Ashly Harris believes that she was the reason for it.

"I feel like the conflict within the house is because of me, so I feel this was my fault," she said. "No one wanted us together, but we just wanted to be together."

Police are trying to determine whether Barrett suffered from any mental illness.
