SEWICKLEY TWP., Pa. — State police were called Friday morning to the scene of a homicide in Westmoreland County.

Troopers responded about 8:30 a.m. to Scott Haven Road in Sewickley Township after a relative called 911 and said a woman had been shot and killed.

Police said Anthony Detar, 38, killed his wife, Kelly Detar, 40. They said no one else was present at the home. %

Troopers in Forest County spotted Anthony Detar’s car after a be on the look-out was issued and attempted to pull him over.

Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police, said that almost immediately after the traffic stop was conducted, a gunshot went off inside the vehicle that they tried to pull over. Officers then found Anthony Detar inside, dead from a gunshot wound.

State police are calling the incident a murder-suicide.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office revealed that Kelly Detar’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

Neighbors told Channel 11 that Kelly and Anthony Detar seemed very much in love and have two older teenaged children, who were unharmed.

“I was just with them a couple days ago. They seemed fine and dandy. (We were) about to go trout fishing this weekend. (I) guess that's not going to happen,” said Richard Coleman, a neighbor.

Officials say evidence from the scene indicates Anthony Detar acted alone.
