Police: Women Used Google Earth To Aid Burglaries

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — Google Earth is an Internet tool that allows users to view satellite imagery of exact locations. Police in Chartiers Township said two women used the tool to help them steal items from unlocked cars.

"They would utilize Google Earth on the Internet and focus on middle class looking neighborhoods," said Chartiers Township police Sgt. Michael Filosi.

Police said Jennifer Haberstock, 31, made a full confession to investigators saying that she and her friend stole credit cards and cash from unlocked cars after analyzing the streets on Google Earth.

"They said rich people kept their cars in the garage, poor people didn't have anything in their cars, so they would go to middle class looking neighborhood because apparently those folks like to leave their cars unlocked with belonging inside of their cars," said Filosi.

Haberstock appeared in court on Wednesday. Police said they are still looking for the second woman involved, Heather Liston.

Investigators said they have surveillance photos of the women using stolen credit cards at gas stations and grocery stores.
