PITTSBURGH — Sean Parnell is all but certain to run for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, a Republican official told The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“He said he was 99% sure this is what he was going to do,” Sam DeMarco, the Republican chairman in Allegheny County, said. “If he does make that decision, he’s going to be a formidable candidate.”
Parnell, a former Army Ranger who was awarded a Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart, made a bid for Congress last year. He lost by a small margin to Democratic Incumbent Conor Lamb.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Parnell has begun calling top GOP officials in Pennsylvania to discuss a potential 2022 Senate run, according to a person close to him who spoke on condition of anonymity. That person said Parnell plans to contact all 67 Republican county chairs.
