PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 News has learned about a possible scam involving Medicare in the Pittsburgh area.

A woman told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic that she received a call from someone claiming to be from Medicare.

“It was around dinner time and the phone rang and I answered it,” Nadine Jedlocka said. “The man said his name was John.”

“He asked me had I had any serious illnesses in the last five years,” Jedlocka said. She immediately hung up.

The man knew her name, address and phone number.

“I was suspicious from the beginning when he said his name was John and his voice sounded like he was from India,” Jedlocka said.

Tomazic spoke with representatives at the Centers for Medicare, who said they will never call or come to someone’s home and ask for personal information or their Medicare number.

They also warn that there are no “early bird discounts” or “limited time offers.”
