Raw Sewage Smell Has W. Brownsville Residents Complaining

WEST BROWNSVILLE, Pa.,None — Residents of West Brownsville called Channel 11 News in hopes of getting a resolution to a horrible-smelling problem.

Neighbors who live on Woodlawn Street said raw sewage has stunk up the area for the past two weeks.

"It's pretty bad. You can smell it. It's like sticking your head in a commode," said resident George Gastner.

"We have kids that go to school every morning and have to walk through this. It's nothing but a stinky mess," resident Randy Stimmell said.

Stimmell said he used to work for the West Brownsville Street Department and he thinks the problem is a broken sewer line.

"It just needs dug up and a piece of new pipe put in and a couple of rubber boots on each side, filled back in. It's one day's work," Stimmell said.

"You pay taxes. You work for a living and you live in raw sewage," Gastner said. "That's beautiful. They need to get somebody out here and fix it."

Councilman Joe Desalvo said the work was delayed because officials had to wait for the utility companies to come out and mark the lines. Desalvo said work on repairing the sewer line break will begin Wednesday.
