PITTSBURGH — It’s finally over.
With a long-awaited 30-20 win at Butler in Week 4, the Shaler Area Titans won their first football game since Oct. 8, 2011. After 34 games, the Titans finally found themselves on top.
While the task of winning a game appreared insurmountable to many, Shaler's football senior class of 2016 believed otherwise.
“We just knew this group of seniors could do it this year,” said offensive tackle Ben Kane.
Despite their optimism, the Titans found themselves outscored 164-34 through the first three games of the season.
“In the mind, we had to keep going. We couldn’t let loose at all,” said Jake Hartman. “We had to keep fighting as hard as we could and keep our minds straight the whole time.”
As their first victory in nearly four years drew near, head coach Jon LeDonne was a little anxious to see how his boys would handle the lead.
“As coaches, we were a little nervous about how the kids were going to respond,” LeDonne said. “The senior leadership prevailed and they responded well.”
Now, as the Titans bask in victory, they remain focused on one thing: getting their second-consecutive victory.
