Rotted Tree Smashes Car With Elderly Couple Inside

The elderly couple was headed to a doctor's appointment when the tree fell across the highway and landed on the car.

The rotted tree smashed in the roof and obliterated the windshield. It also brought down power lines.

"The tree just went ‘woosh,' and came down," said witness Tom Darst.

Witnesses said they couldn't believe the couple made it out of the car alive.

"I saw the tree coming out of the woods and I thought ‘I can't be seeing that' and I thought it was just blowing in the wind," said Eric Myers. "Then it came falling over the road and I was like ‘holy goodness.' "

John Tucholski said his wife was driving the car when the tree fell down on them.

"I couldn't stop before I got to it," he said. "I went underneath it."

Tucholski said his wife was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries.

Crews said the tree was rotted out and that is what caused it to fall.
