Signing Ceremony Commemorates 20th Anniversary Of AGH, Northside Community Partnership

PITTSBURGH,None — A ceremony was held on Friday morning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Allegheny General Hospital and the North Side community's partnership.

Twenty years ago, AGH and the 15 neighborhood groups that comprise the North Side Leadership Conference signed a groundbreaking, formal agreement that established the framework for a long-standing partnership.

The partnership's mission was to enhance and promote the vitality, quality of life and image of the North Side community through neighborhood reinvestment and economic development, improved housing, education, employment, and health and wellness initiatives. According to AGH, it is now one of the longest running official partnerships between a community and a major medical institution in the country.

Some notable accomplishments of the Partnership include:

-Neighborhood Renovation projects - such as Parkhurst Street and Aeberlie House

-West Park Improvements and Maintenance

-Development of NorthsideNow.com Web Site

-Workforce Home Benefit Program - enabling 14 AGH employees to buy homes on the Northside to date.

-Weekly North Side Farmers Market

-AGH Scholarships to North Side residents seeking health care careers

-Annual Job Fairs

-Start on Success internship/mentoring program with Pittsburgh Public Schools

-AGH Biotechnology Women's Workforce Collaborative

-Kidshape, Hearts in the Park Cardiovascular Disease Awareness and Stranger Danger programs
