PITTSBURGH — Allison McLeod tells Channel 11 News that she’s heartbroken after losing her brother just days into 2017.
Gregory McLeod, 28, became the first murder victim in Pittsburgh in the new year after he was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the city’s Homewood neighborhood.
“We were really close ever since he was born. I was always like a mother figure to him,” Allison McLeod said. “You never expect to wake up at 5 in the morning and find out from social media that your brother has been killed.”
Gregory McLeod was killed early Tuesday at Frankstown and Brushton avenues. He was a father of three: two young girls and a 3-year-old boy.
He was killed by a bullet, but his family told Channel 11 News that he wasn't confrontational and didn't have enemies.
Allison McLeod said her brother frequently said, “Guns give cowards courage.”
“He hated guns,” she said.
Allison McLeod is pleading for her brother’s friends and people who loved him not to retaliate and to share what they know with police.
“So far, no leads. No lead right now. We’re here just hoping and praying,” she said.
Pittsburgh police confirmed that they have not named a suspect or person of interest in the case.
Anyone with information about Gregory McLeod’s death is asked to contact authorities.
