PITTSBURGH — The state has issued an air quality alert for the Pittsburgh area, saying clear, warm conditions will spike levels of a key smog component.
The Department of Environmental Protection says ozone will increase to unhealthy levels Tuesday in parts of Allegheny County and Indiana County.

That puts young children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems at risk.
Officials advise people with asthma, emphysema, bronchitis and other respiratory conditions to limit outdoor activities.
They're also asking residents and businesses to set air conditioning thermostats higher to reduce power usage, keep lights and appliances off when not in use, carpool and combining errands to reduce trips.
