Spectator Plaza Opens To Thousands Of Winter Classic Fans

PITTSBURGH,None — Thousands of fans are in Pittsburgh gearing up for Saturday's Winter Classic game at Heinz Field.

On Friday, "Spectator Plaza" opened outside of the stadium.

Many people traveled from far away to come to Pittsburgh for the big game.

"Pens are going to win baby," said Ryan McCully, of Florida. "We drove 16 hours!"

During the Alumni Game on Friday morning, fans without tickets got the chance to tour Spectator Plaza and participate in a number of hockey-themed challenges.

Fans said one of the most popular games at the plaza is the Sidney Crosby Dryer Shot. Hockey fans said it was much harder than it looked.

"I got two out of three… Not bad for a Caps fan," said one man.

Pens fans said they're glad the team is getting the same kind of recognition that the Steelers receive.

"It's such a boom right with how well they're doing. They're almost as popular as the Steelers. It's great seeing all these young fans here," said Jeff Meares, of Baldwin.

Spectator Plaza will remain open until 5 p.m. Friday.
