PITTSBURGH — The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Mercer County Tuesday afternoon.
Officials from the NWS said winds reached approximately 90 mph in Hoagland, where trees were uprooted and power lines were torn down.
The weather service says possible tornadoes were also reported Tuesday in Perry, Bedford and Sullivan counties in central Pennsylvania. No injuries were reported.
In Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County, a tree fell on a house, and in West Deer in Allegheny County, a downed tree was reported.
Tuesday’s storms left damage in many areas, including Jackson Center where officials said straight line winds ripped off the roofs of many homes.
Meteorologist Valerie Smock said humidity will decrease Wednesday, with clouds and some sun. Afternoon and evening showers are likely, with isolated storms possible in some areas.
“The showers will be hit and miss with a rumble of thunder not out of question,” said Smock.
Highs will reach 80 degrees.
