SWAT Team Comes Up Empty Handed In Search For Robbers

None — SWAT teams were called to a home near the East End Co-Op on Penn Avenue on Wednesday.

Wilkinsburg police said that they were looking for four men in connection with a recent string of break-ins, street robberies and violence in Regent Square, Wilkinsburg, Edgewood and Swissvale.

Wilkinsburg Police Chief Ophelia Coleman said they didn't find a suspect at the Penn Avenue house. The four suspects police said are connected to robberies in Wilkinsburg, Swissvale, Edgewood and Regent Square have been identified.

Police said the victims have helped with the investigation.

Police said the suspects are holding people at gunpoint and have taken off with jewelry, cash and cell phones.

"Every little clue that you give us we are taking that and developing a case," Coleman said.

Animal Nature pet store was also robbed this month.

The owner said people have been donating money since learning about the robbery.

"The customers in the neighborhood, they are very protective of us. We have not been in business that long. It is very heartwarming," owner Ute Norman said.

There will be a community meeting Thursday night at the Wilkins Community Center in Regent Square, where police will meet with residents and update them on the investigation.
