PITTSBURGH — First responders were honored Tuesday for their bravery during the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting.
It’s been a little more than six months since the shooting, but it was still an emotional event for many.
At Tuesday’s service, Pittsburgh’s emergency medical services gave out several awards including the Medal of Valor.
EMT Lawrence Turner was one of the people rushing to Squirrel Hill into that gunfire. He downplayed his bravery, saying the heavy police presence made him feel safe.

"You're training is for it. You know what you're supposed to be doing and everything just feels like it's falling into line,” Hunter said.
Mayor Bill Peduto also honored those first responders.
