ROCKDALE COUNTY, GEORGIA — A teacher and two assistants are on administrative leave after they punished a five-year-old special needs student by hanging him by his belt loops.
Last Thursday, the principal at a Shoal Creek Elementary School heard a commotion from inside a classroom.
When he walked into the classroom he saw the young boy suspended from the top of the chalkboard by his back belt loops.
The boy was kicking and screaming.
The superintendent took swift action, suspending the teacher and the two assistants and recommending their termination.
He even called local law enforcement and the professional standards commission, which could affect their teaching certificates.
The boy's grandmother says the teacher failed her grandson, and hopes these teaching professionals are never allowed in the classroom again.
"I hope that they're not able to teach again. Let this be a lesson. We're supposed to love our children, and treat them kind," said Tracy Davis.
The superintendent personally apologized to the boy's grandmother.
The boy and his classmates have a new teacher as the school system and the state conduct a full investigation.
