Teen charged with setting family's house on fire in Lawrence County

HICKORY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 15-year-old has been charged with intentionally setting his own house on fire with his family inside.

Three people were injured, including the teen’s mother, in the fire on East Maitland Lane in Hickory Township.

Officials from the Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle said the fire was reported at 2:30 a.m.

Herbert and Rosanna Rodgers and their 11-year-old daughter suffered serious burns. Officials said all three were transported to a Pittsburgh hospital where they were treated and listed in serious condition.

Two other people in the home, 32-year-old Melanie Clark of Gibsonia and Clark’s 3-year-old daughter, were not injured. A dog was rescued, another dog died and two cats are unaccounted for.

According to the news release, the state police’s fire marshal unit determined the fire was set by Rosanna Rodgers’ son, who also lives at the home.

The teen is charged as an adult on counts of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, arson/endangering persons, aggravated arson, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
