GREENSBURG, Pa.,None — A Presbyterian church in Greensburg was robbed and vandalized Friday night.
The reverend of Westminster Presbyterian Church said it appears as if the thieves took their time and smashed their way throughout the building. The Rev. Donna Havrisko said the thieves initially got into the church by breaking through a window in the church's nursery.
Havrisko said they then made their way through the building, breaking through doors and closets with a crowbar.
"The intruder then came through the social hall, broke into the office and shattered that glass. They must have had a crowbar. We can see the marks on the walls. They broke the door to the closet open. We have a locked closet where our financial things are kept," Havrisko said.
Two metal safes were also stored inside of the closet. Havrisko said the thieves got away with one of them, however there was nothing inside.
"I think, as most people know, churches don't keep money on site. And to break into a church, particularly on a Friday evening or Saturday morning is really pointless," said Havrisko. "Justice is always part of religion and faith, so we would hope justice would be served and the grace of God would be there as well."
