1 killed after car flips over on turnpike

State police confirmed one person was killed Saturday after a car flipped on Interstate 376.

Police said John G. Fields, 25, of West Pittsburg, was traveling at a high rate of speed Saturday morning, heading westbound on I-376 in North Beaver Township when his vehicle – a 2012 Honda Civic – impacted a concrete barrier.

The vehicle became airborne and rotated before landing and coming to rest in the far right lane, according to a news release.

The accident took place around 5 a.m. near the West Toll Gate, police said.

Fields was trapped after his car flipped over, sustaining fatal injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by James Farris, the Lawrence County Deputy Coroner.

Police determined Fields was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

No other details were available.
