1 killed in Shadyside shooting

One person was fatally shot in Shadyside on Thursday, officials said.

Paramedics and police responded to Swopes Street around 8:50 p.m. after a report that someone was shot in the street officials said. Police found a man who had been shot multiple times, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim as 21-year-old Elijah Laurence Paris. of Wapapo, Washington. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.

reported that neighbors heard up to eight gunshots.

Nellie Brooker said the news of the shooting doesn’t surprise her because crime can happen anywhere.

“You wish it wouldn’t happen in your area but (it) happens all over,” Booker said.

Police said the last time there was a homicide committed in Shadyside was nine years ago in 2008.

Small business owners in the area said the shooting happened in an area that has seen some minor crimes such as vandalism, but now they are keeping a closer watch.

“It surprised me because I work here, and I would have been here when it happened. (It’s) crazy to think anything can happen at any moment,” said Dominic Graziano, who works in the area.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
