PITTSBURGH — Strong winds Tuesday toppled trees on power lines, resulting in damage across Allegheny and Beaver counties.

Duquesne Light has restored power to about 7,000 customers, but nearly 8,000 remain without power.

The strong winds have also sent a 100-foot tree to crashing into a home, causing the family to stay elsewhere.

Tory Efremenko left her home to pick up her daughter and came home to the tree on her house. She said there are holes in the roof and water damage to the house.

The tree that fell had no prior signs of trouble. While there was a wind advisory for the area, she said she doesn’t remember there being a lot of wind when she left her home.

“This tree’s been here. What are the chances on a day with no rain, no lightning, it just twists and snaps off like that?” Efremenko said.

A crane will be needed to move the tree before it sinks further into the home.

“We can’t stay in the house, going to a hotel. (We) can’t stay here cause it’s not structurally sound,” Efremenko said.

Adding to the incident, Efremenko’s insurance company told her it may not be covered.

Efremenko said she is thankful no one was there when the tree crashed.
