PITTSBURGH — One thousand Pittsburgh Public Schools students were left out of summer learning programs after the district said there isn’t enough staff.

Officials said parents were notified Thursday if their child didn’t make the list for the summer boost program that’s supposed to start on Monday. The district said despite increasing pay, adding additional paid working days and consolidating sites, they were not able to hire enough people.

This is the latest issue affecting PPS students. The district said it is still short hundreds of bus drivers for the fall and some students will have to continue learning at home when school is back in session.

Now, only 1,500 students will be able to participate in the program. They will be prioritized based on need, including through individual education programs and their performance in language arts and math.
