YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Two firefighters were hurt when they were called Thursday morning for a fire at a salon and spa in Youngwood, Westmoreland County.
The fire was reported about 4 a.m. at Platinum Salon & Spa on North Third Street.
Candy Valentino, the salon’s owner, said the inside is a total loss and repairs will take months. Insulation hangs from the ceiling and there is significant smoke damage.
While working to put out the fire, one firefighter inhaled smoke and another suffered a cut to the hand, officials said. Both were treated at the scene.
Valentino’s family built the salon nearly two decades ago.
“You're in shock for a little bit and devastated, but then I just flipped into focus about my team and, you know, we have 20 people that their families depend on jobs here,” Valentino said.
Valentino owns a vacant building next door that she hopes to utilize while the original salon is repaired.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
