PITTSBURGH — A school van with children inside rolled onto its side Thursday morning in Pittsburgh’s New Homestead neighborhood.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Mifflin and Mooney roads, officials said. The school van was heading to Pittsburgh Mifflin PreK-8.

Five students were in the van with the driver, police said. They helped one another out of the wreckage before first responders got to the scene. All of them were then taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, but a salt truck was brought in to treat the road.

The van was uprighted and the scene cleared about 9:30 a.m.

Police and counselors from Pittsburgh Public Schools contacted the students’ parents, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
