71-year-old accused of shooting out driver's window in road rage incident

A 71-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly shot out another driver’s window during a road rage incident.

The incident happened when the suspect, Michael John DeAngelo, and the victim were trying to merge at Washington Boulevard to get onto the Highland Park Bridge. According to a criminal complaint, the victim made a quick lane change to get onto Route 28.

Police said DeAngelo starting tailgating him down Route 28, and the situation escalated on Seavy Road.

The two men exited their cars and started arguing, and DeAngelo allegedly reached into his glove compartment and pulled out a gun. The victim then got back into his car and took off.

Police said, seconds later, DeAngelo fired his gun, shooting out the victim’s rearview window and shooting the victim in the hand.

The victim followed DeAngelo and got his license plate number. The victim then went to the Millvalle Baseball Field and called police.

Police said while questioning DeAngelo, he told them, “I hope I didn’t shoot through the window. I should have taken that gun to the range.”

DeAngelo’s wife told police her husband "had numerous road rage-type incidents in the past.”
