BEAVER COUNTY — A former Bridgewater Police officer who is named in an excessive force lawsuit has now been hired by another Beaver County department.

Nathan Swierkosz, along with fellow officer Jeremy Conley and the Bridgewater Police Department, are named in the federal lawsuit filed in January 2020.

Swierkosz no longer works at the Bridgewater Police Department but has recently been hired by the Ambridge Police -- he is listed as a patrolman on the department’s website.

The lawsuit claims Swierkosz and Conley approached David Mileham of Beaver County while he was working maintenance at Bridgewater Marina and Landings.

The two officers boarded Mileham’s boat without permission while in uniform in June 12, 2019, and then either Conley or Swierkosz struck Mileham with a Taser and fists while he was handcuffed, and aggressively dragged him, injuring his shoulders and back, according to the lawsuit.

Conley continued to punch Mileham in the face repeatedly until he lost consciousness, while Swierkosz stood by without taking any action, the lawsuit states.

A guest on Mileham’s boat witnessed the interaction and told investigators what they saw.

The lawsuit is claiming excessive, unreasonable and unjustified force was used by Conley and Swierkosz, violating Mileham’s constitutional rights.
