PITTSBURGH — Pool-goers had even fewer options in the City of Pittsburgh Wednesday, after the Ormsby Pool suddenly closed.
According to city officials, a mechanical issue prompted the sudden closure at the South Side pool.
“That’s a real disappointment,” said mom Kristen Signore, who visits the pool with her daughter each day.
By the afternoon, city officials told Channel 11 that the issue had been fixed, and the pool is expected to reopen Thursday, weather-permitting.
The brief problem was reported as many of the city’s pools remain closed due to staffing issues.
Currently, only 8 of 18 are open now. The city’s website states “with outdoor pools being closed since the Summer of 2019, it has been challenging to recruit/hire lifeguards.”
One mom we spoke with hopes to see that change.
“You’ve gotta teach your kids how to swim so they can be in the pipeline to become lifeguards,” said Claire Pro. “It’s a really good job, I lifeguarded most of my life!”
