BUTLER, Pa. — Officials at Butler Health Systems said they are ahead of schedule in terms of getting the COVID-19 vaccine out. In mid-December, the system began vaccinating workers with an initial 975 doses. A month later, the hospital has vaccinated more than 3,000 people. That includes firefighters and emergency services personnel who are in Phase 1B.
“Every day we are vaccinating people,” chief medical officer Dr. David Rottinghaus said. “It doesn’t do us any good to have the vaccine in the freezer. We need to get the vaccine in people’s arms and we are doing that.”
Heritage Valley Health System in Beaver County continues to vaccinate workers in Phase 1. So far, 2,800 people have gotten the first dose and 1,100 already have the second dose. The system is running additional vaccine clinics for Phase 1A workers who aren’t affiliated with the hospital. 1,000 people have already registered.
