CANONSBURG, Pa. — Canonsburg police arrested two underage teens on attempted murder charges Wednesday after a drive-by shooting.
Channel 11 was there as the mayor went door to door to reassure neighbors they are safe.
According to court documents, one of the teens said they went to Canonsburg to fight and brought a friend to make sure they didn’t get jumped.
“I feel I have a responsibility to this town, that I need to come into this area, allow the residents to know they’re safe and secure,” Mayor David Rhome said.
Around 6 p.m. Wednesday night, people reported hearing gunshots on Duquesne Avenue near Perry Como Street. They reported a red car sped away from the scene.
They saw a man come out of a house holding his waist band, acting as if he had a weapon. That’s when one of the teens pulled out a gun and fired two shots. He told police he fired into the air just to scare the person, wiped the gun with a rag and got rid of the bullet casings.
“People coming into our town that don’t even live here, if you don’t behave, don’t come here,” Rhome said.
Channel 11′s Cara Sapida reached out to the new Washington County district attorney, Jason Walsh, who said, “This office will prosecute juveniles that are committing violent crimes in the adult system, when permitted by law, with adult punishments if convicted.”
