PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are investigating a carjacking early Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh.

It happened on Smithfield Street downtown around 1:30 a.m.

A woman was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when someone came up to her with a gun and forced her out of the car.

“It’s upsetting in the sense that I feel very bad for the people that felt they had to do it. I don’t know if that’s a sign of what’s going on in the area economically, people are struggling,” explained Kate Lyons.

The word of a carjacking downtown is spreading to people who live there and those who visit the city.

Investigators say they are looking for surveillance video in this area to see if they can identify the suspect.
