BETHEL PARK, Pa. — “This is the third time,” said Nick Kellington.
After the first time, Kellington installed security cameras. He lives on Church Road in Bethel Park.
“Ever since we’ve been hit, I check them almost daily,” Kellington said.
He checked his security cameras Thursday morning and saw a man walking up to his car and tugging at his door. He said he thinks this same man tried to get into his car this summer.
“In this instance, they hit my next-door neighbor, and I caught them on camera going into my car after they couldn’t get into mine,” said Kellington. “Just want to do our part to try to keep the neighborhood safe.”
Several security cameras recorded two men going around to different cars between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday. They’re seen trying car doors on Church Road, Greenwald Road and Carlton Road.
Over the summer, this same area got hit, as well as surrounding areas outside Bethel Park.
Chuck Kaufold said he just had some change taken out of his car. Another person had a gun stolen.
Police said, this time, not as much was reported stolen because more car doors were locked. Out of the six to seven people who filed reports this most recent time, police said only half reported items being stolen.
“She makes sure I come outside and lock the doors,” said Kaufold. “I said, ‘I’ll click it from the door,’ and she says, ‘No, you go check.’”
“The big message is if you lock your doors, they check it. They can’t get it, they move on to somebody else,” said Kellington.
If you haven’t checked your security cameras and you live in Bethel Park, police want you to check them. Also, if you live in surrounding areas, police are asking you to check your cameras, too, because they believe these people are responsible for doing this in other communities.
