One hundred thousand Pennsylvania American Water customers in southern Allegheny and Washington counties are in the clear Wednesday after a boil water advisory was lifted.

The customers Channel 11 spoke to in Bethel Park are grateful that they can get back to their normal routines.

“We're going to go home and change the ice out, we're going to wash the dishes and just take care of things,” said Linda Barnicott.

Channel 11 was the first to break the news of the boil water advisory's end through our app and we also broke the news to a lot of folks in person today.

"Boiling the water wasn't that bad, but washing the dishes was the worst,” said Amber Meussner.

Everyone Channel 11 talked to, like the guys who run Campiti's Pizzeria in Bethel Park, was relieved life could go back to normal.

"Just get back to making the food, not having to worry about that stuff,” said Jordan Savage.

Pennsylvania American Water lifted the advisory at 12:07 p.m. after they got acceptable test results from samples taken Monday and Tuesday.

The utility said its number one goal was to make sure the water was safe to drink after high turbidity levels were found. The issue is believed to be a problem with a water filter, but Penn American denied repeated requests for interviews.

The state Department of Environmental Protection, which ordered the boil water advisory, did not respond to requests for comment.

The Allegheny County Health Department did temporarily shut down the Papa John's on Library Road yesterday for failing to boil water during the advisory.

It was back open today and the health department said it didn't have any other offenders in the 14 Allegheny County communities impacted by the advisory.

People said being able to turn on the tap without worry will make life easier.

“A lot easier. You don't have to boil the water, you don't have to run to Giant Eagle to buy more cases of water for the rest of the week,” Muessner said.
