O’HARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One person was killed in a crash that left a car mangled on a hillside next to Route 28 in O’Hara Township, officials said.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m. off the southbound lanes of Route 28, which were closed at RIDC Park until about 5:30 a.m. after a tow truck pulled the car from the hillside.

A sign was also damaged by the crash.

According to a police report, it appeared that Ziegenhagen swerved to avoid slower moving traffic, and due to the high rate of speed and the brakes locking up, the vehicle then slid off the road, hit the embankment and rolled several times.

The driver of the vehicle, Robert L. Ziegenhagen, 40, of Leechburg, was ejected from the vehicle and died.
