ASPINWALL, Pa. — Crews battled a small fire at a restaurant in Aspinwall that caused more than a dozen diners to flee Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. in the basement of Spice Affair Indian Cuisine on Brilliant Avenue. Several fire companies responded to the scene.

"We heard the waiters start to yell, 'Get out, get out, everyone out, right now!'" one patron told Channel 11.

Around 16 patrons inside the restaurant were evacuated, and employees checked on patrons who were standing outside afterward.

"I could smell from the bar area, I could smell all this smoke and it was thick and dark and just getting into my eyes and burning," said patron Beatrice Korinski.

Two firefighters were transported to a hospital due to heat exhaustion and several others were treated at the scene.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
