Crews to close portion of Liberty Tunnel beginning Sunday night

PITTSBURGH — Portions of the Liberty Tunnel will be closed overnights starting Sunday for tunnel inspection and survey work.

Overnight tunnel closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday PennDOT District 11 will be closing the inbound portion of the tunnel Sunday and Monday, followed by the outbound portion Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday, April 2 to Sunday April 4, the tunnel will be fully open, and then the outbound portion will be closed again April 5 and 6, followed by the inbound portion on April 7 and 8.

Traffic will be detoured during the inspections. Police will assist with traffic control at the signalized intersections outside of the tunnel entrances.
