PITTSBURGH — A crossing guard was attacked Friday morning in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood.

Police confirmed a witness account that a woman got off a Port Authority of Allegheny County bus and began fighting with the guard shortly at about 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Brighton Road and Benton Avenue.

"All of a sudden, I see her beating the school guard up," said the witness, who didn't want to be identified. "I think she had her hand around her throat. It took a couple of guys to pull her off the school guard."

Two men broke up the fight, and police took Eureka Branson into custody about a block away.

Channel 11 learned those two men were fathers standing with their children.

The guard, who had been standing with children and their parents before the attack, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with a broken finger and scratches on her face.

Investigators said the guard had been threatened earlier this week.

"She said somebody had come down to this area and pretty much threatened her and didn't say why," said Raymond Bernard, who works nearby. "She was upset."
