PITTSBURGH — CVS is taking job applications and is ready to hire 315 registered pharmacists and nurses in preparation for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout at drugstores nationwide.

Jeffrey Lackey, with CVS Health, told Channel 11 the chain needs experienced medical professionals to help with immunizing the most vulnerable people in the Pittsburgh area.

“We are ready in terms of our staff, but we want to make sure we have reinforcements,” Lackey said. “If you have a license for immunization, if you’re certified for that, then we want to talk with you -- especially if you’re a pharmacist or an RN.”

Lackey said the additional positions will also play a critical role in immunizing the general population in 2021.

CVS plans on going into 40,000 skilled nursing, long-term care and assisted living facilities to vaccinate residents and staff with the coronavirus vaccine.

“I want to hire immunizers, and they can immunize Pfizer, Moderna, biotech, any of those. And they’ll be well-trained on the process of handling the vaccine, administering the vaccine,” he said.

CVS is expected to have a major announcement on Monday about its COVID-19 vaccination program -- and how it will be rolled out.
