Driver in hit-and-run incident involving college student comes forward, police say

An 20-year-old college student was struck by a vehicle in Oakland on Sunday evening.

The suspect, a 34-year-old Apollo man, came forward on Monday, police said. After consulting with the District Attorney's office, a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

He is being charged with reckless driving causing accidents involving death or personal injury and failing to immediatley notify police of the accident.

According to city public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler, the vehicle fled the scene.

Police said the woman was walking along Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street in Oakland when she was hit by a vehicle.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, and Toler said she is currently in stable condition.

The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
