PITTSBURGH — After a rough 2020, the production of movies and TV shows in Pittsburgh is ramping back up.
Between now and the fall, 19 projects would like to film in Pittsburgh -- and they’re all looking at the city because of Pennsylvania’s film industry incentive program, according to the Pittsburgh Film Office.
The potential projects have a production budget of more than $630 million, Pittsburgh Film Office Director Dawn Keezer said.
Six shows are on the ground right now to scout and set up offices for preproduction. One project, “American Rust,” started shooting.
Then there’s filming for the TV series “A League of Their Own.” That’s getting ready to start in the next six to eight weeks.
“Those are the ones right now. There’s a lot more coming. I have calls every single day. Pittsburgh is in the top 10 of places that our filmmakers want to come and work, and it’s because of our crew, it’s because of our location and it’s definitely because of our film incentive program,” Keezer said.
Keezer wants to see Pennsylvania raise the cap on its film incentive program, which is capped at $70 million. A current bill, if passed, would increase the incentive to $125 million.
