Fish and Boat Commission proposing statewide opening day for trout season

PITTSBURGH — Instead of having separate opening days for the start of trout season, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is considering having just one for the entire state.

According to our partners at TribLive.com, most of the state’s opening day is the first Saturday after April 11. For 18 southeastern counties, anglers can start the first Saturday after March 28.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials instead consolidated those dates. Based on the response from anglers, agency officials said it was clear that most favored a single opening day that would provide an earlier and longer trout season.

If approved, the commission will start stocking trout two weeks earlier than usual.
