PITTSBURGH — Gas prices across the country are at their highest since October 2014. That’s according to AAA, which just released the latest numbers.

For local drivers, it hurts.

In AAA’s latest gas price report, the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas nationally increased 8 cents to $3.27. Triple-A says that’s a seven-year high. Here in the Pittsburgh area, AAA reports gas prices are even higher at $3.44 a gallon. However, all the gas stations we stopped at were $3.35 per gallon. Compared to a year ago, that’s a whopping 81 cents more per gallon.

Triple-A reports that in Pennsylvania, the cheapest gas can be found in Greensburg at $3.29 a gallon. The most expensive is in Mercer at $3.56.

The key driver for this recent rise in the price of gas is crude oil, which has been over $80 per barrel. According to Triple-A, it also pertains to last week’s decision by OPEC and its oil-producing allies NOT to increase production only exacerbated the upward momentum.
