PITTSBURGH — UPDATE: Shannon Lyons, who started the petition, said the parade is back on thanks to volunteer efforts and city cooperation.
Some people in the Bloomfield community are banding together to save the neighborhood's beloved Halloween parade.
This would have been its 49th year and with seemingly no warning or explanation, residents found out on Facebook that it has been canceled.

Shannon Lyons was born and raised in Bloomfield, and is now trying to save what she calls a time-honored tradition that's part of the fabric of her Pittsburgh neighborhood.
"All communities are welcome, all communities do come, I think it's for the entire city!" Lyons said.
The Halloween parade is canceled for the first time since it started 49 years ago.
The Bloomfield Citizens Council puts it on and released this statement a few days ago:
"Part of the decision was based upon the cost of the parade over the past several years and with the increased size to 2,000 participants, the costs facing us this year were enormous."
Casey Marzell and his son Luca had heard the news.
"I thought it was very unfortunate because we have so much fun at the Halloween parade. The kids love it and so do the parents,” Marzell said.
Banking that most families would feel that way, Lyons is now asking for people to volunteer their time and resources.
The parade usually brings in about 10,000 people and is one of the largest nighttime parades in the city.
Lyons hopes she and her neighborhood can now save it.
The online petition is called "Keep The Annual Bloomfield Halloween Parade."
