High-school senior dies after shooting in Sheraden

PITTSBURGH — An 18-year-old high-school student died at a Pittsburgh hospital after a shooting late Wednesday night in the city’s Sheraden neighborhood.

According to the medical examiner's office, the victim has been identified as Juwan Jordan, a 12th grade student of Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center.

The shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. at the corner of Allendale Street and Chartiers Avenue, blocks away from Langley K-8 school. A neighbor told Channel 11 News that they heard between 12 and 14 gunshots from two different guns.

Police said Jordan was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

As investigators processed the scene, evidence markers were placed on the ground and several police cars were in the area.

According to a statement released by Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center Thursday morning, Jordan was well-liked by students and staff.

The release also stated Jordan was a member of the Pittsburgh Westinghouse boys' basketball team, and he was preparing to graduate in the spring.

Jordan’s uncle told Channel 11 Jordan had a bright future and the family is looking for answers.

“It’s hitting me hard and the whole family. We just want closure to this. We want to know what happened,” said Melvin Johnson.

Johnson said he doesn’t know why Juwan was there or who he was with Wednesday night.

“I just want to wake up. I just want closure. We just want to know anything. We want to know what happened to him,” Johnson said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
