VANDERGRIFT, Pa. — A school district in Westmoreland County is adding extra patrols for daytime school events.

The Kiski Area School District Superintendent Timothy Scott told our news partners at TribLIVE that he's taking action in response to a resident's concern.

Scott said that going forward there will be extra police officers on days when many members of the public come to schools for events, even Grandparents Day.

Under the new policy, every guest will also be required to register and won’t be left alone to roam.

TRENDING NOW:

Until now, the district has used a system where it scans each guest’s driver’s license, but officials said that isn’t practical on days when hundreds of people visit the school.

Scott told TribLIVE the district hopes the new system will make things safer.
