PITTSBURGH — A man was killed in a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood on Monday, according to police.

It happened on Brighton Road near Davis Avenue around 3:40 p.m.

Officers tried to save Ernest Nevin Mills Jr., 28, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brighton Road was closed while police investigated.

“Certainly it is unusual for it to happen in the middle of the day in broad daylight,” Public safety spokesperson Chris Togneri said.

Police arrested Laron Smith Wednesday during a SWAT situation.
