Local man dies after tractor flips on top of him while cutting grass, police say

JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. — A man died after a tractor flipped over on top of him while he was cutting grass on a steep hillside.

According to a release from police, the victim was cutting grass on his property on Walters Lane in Jefferson Hills Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. when the tractor he was driving began to slide sideways and then flipped over and landed on him.

Investigators said George Walter, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members told police that Walter hadn’t returned for dinner, so they went looking for him and found him underneath the tractor on the steep hillside and called 911.

Police said it took rescue crews a few hours” to stabilize the tractor enough to remove Walter’s body.

Jefferson Hills police are investigating the incident, but they said “there are no indications of any suspicious circumstances.”
